Random

Tonight is the first night I have NOOOOO motivation to paint.  It is so close to being done...kind of.  There are sections that are done with 3 coats and then there are sections that still only have one coat.  BOO.  I trudged through and did 30 minutes of work tonight and plan on putting on another coat before bed.  BUT...I still loooooove it.  You know what happens to your house when you spend all your "free" time after bedtime painting?  It gets FILTHY! Plus, my lawns needs to be mowed.  The neighbors are starting to stare.  But, it will have to wait.

What else is on my mind?  My little lady's birthday party.  7.  Can you believe it?  7.  Crap.  Why does that sound so old to me?  My long lean little lady is getting big.  Her attitude is also growing with age.  Double crap.

3 weeks later is Jett's birthday.  He can't make his mind up for the life of him what kind of party he wants.  One day it is  superheroes, then wolverine only, today.....Rapunzel.  Yep. He wants a Rapunzel cake.  We will see what tomorrow brings.  He has a few weeks still to change his mind.  That boy.  Love him and his funniness (is that a word?).

Birthdays.  Wasn't it just Jett's first birthday?  Sure seems like it.

My sweet babes.

Time sucks sometimes.

Really.

Am I crazy if I say I miss diapers, bottles, getting up in the middle of the night, snuggles, sleeping baby on my chest?  I do.  I miss it all so very much.  I can barely pick up my little lady and Jett is not as easy anymore.  Sad, really.

This mama doesn't want her babes to grow up.

Kitchen - Day 5

It is Day 5 and I am still painting.
Yep....stiiiiillllll painting.
I honestly have only been working 1-2 hours at a time, sometimes shorter.  I have primed everything and have put the first coat on half of the kitchen.  I am thinking it will take me the rest of the week.  It is sooo worth the time.  I love it.  It looks so much bigger, brighter and updated.   Thank goodness I decided to use latex paint instead of oil because my hands are constantly covered in paint as well as my floor and counter occassionaly from drips.
It cleans right up.
So.  Nice.
The light doesn't do it justice.
I have started shopping around for the pulls and knobs I want to install.  Man...those things are pricey.

I am tackling the kitchen....finally. PART 1

I have been wanting to paint my kitchen cabinets since I moved into our house 1 1/2 years ago.  I have been scared to take it on myself and didn't want to pay the hefty price of a painter.  On a whim yesterday I slapped on some white paint onto one of my drawer fronts to see what I thought.  Well, that started it.  I am now painting the kitchen.  After a ton of research these last few months, I have cleaned, lightly sanded and started to prime my little kitchen.  I have decided not to use oil based paint because of the clean-up.  I honestly don't have time for it.  I have read many people who have had luck with latex so I went for it.  So much easier.  Tonight was DAY 1.  My plan is to work a little every night after the little people go to bed.  Life doesn't stop to paint the kitchen.  There are still meals to be made and lunches to be packed.  Therefore, I have come up with some easy ways to put it all away until the next night.   It may take me a week or so, but I am already excited for how it is going to look.  Here are just a couple of the many kitchens I adore that have inspired this project.
Here is my kitchen BEFORE.
Dirty ugly, yet very sturdy oak cabinets.
You can see a little bit of the cabinets in this pic.
I didn't take very good before pics.

Here they are with some priming done.
It's amazing how much
bigger and brighter it looks already.

I have big plans for this corner glass cabinet.
Some fun colorful lined shelves
with my white dishes.
This is my clean up plan...ZIPLOC bags.
Works so well.  Into the bags and into the closet.  Out of sight.

Dishes soaking.
Dishwasher running.
Life keeps moving.
Until tomorrow night little kitchen.

Student of the Month

Bravo Seri!
We are sooooo proud of you!
She is becoming quite the reader, writer, artist and little scientist.
It soooo fun to see her love of learning!

Weekend...in pictures.

Since I had the sprinkler on he thought for sure it was summer.  Crazy boy.
(This only lasted for 5 minutes...tops.)

 Look at the rainbow.
Look at how cute these three are.
Wore out from the week.
Gotta love Friday night movie and pizza.

Birthday parties are the best!

House Rules.
My a.m.a.z.i.n.g. friend Grace made this for me with the help of one of her art students.  She "claims" she only sprayed painted the frame and was the "boss" and her student helper did the rest.  Either way, I love it.  Awesome, right?  I found this idea on Etsy but couldn't afford the spendy price tag.  So, after finding a $5.00 frame at Goodwill she took it over for me and now we have house rules.  It is perfect. We had a family meeting, read through the rules and believe it or not...I think they are working.  At dinner last night Seri told us all the things she is thankful for.  When she was done she said,  "I am thankful mom...just like our house rules says to be."
LOVE IT!
Thank you thank you thank you Grace!

This is how he rolls.

Mud, mud and more mud.
A whole backyard to play in and this is what they do.
(I love it.)

Seriously, hilarious movie from the birthday party.
(Try to ignore my loud laughing.)

How does Seri measure up?

We are learning how to measure in Kindergarten.  Seri is all about measuring everything now.  The last couple days she has been measuring her height, length of her arms and legs and the size of her head.  She was the second tallest in the class but had the longest legs.

This is Seri's Very Hungry Caterpillar and pear she made at school.  I can't wait to add it to our art gallery!

P.S.  Tomorrow's Friday!  WOOHOO!

this and that

Here are some random thoughts and pictures from
my iphone from the last few days.

Oh spring...I love it!  Although, I HATE the yard work that comes a long with it.  That is what I did this weekend...yard work.  I mowed for the first time, planted herbs, pansies and started the moss in my favorite cherub planter.  Remember this?  Click here to look at last years.

My little lady's spring placement.
I love how it brightens up the kitchen on our table and she can study while she eats her breakfast in the morning.
(Her teacher is awesome.)

I hit some thrift stores and estate sales this weekend.
I found this chalkboard for $5.00 at the goodwill.  For now, it fits perfectly above the crazy empty space above my stove.

I found 2 more metal flower wall hangings.  They were yellow and brown and now they are white...ofcourse.  They look great above the bathtub.  (I love spray paint, especially the Krylon 2x.  It is a.w.e.s.o.m.e.)

I found a white round table cloth with a pom-pom edge (LOVE) for only $1.00.  I thought it would make a perfect little curtain in the window above Seri's Barbie house.
Looks adorable.

I also found a "perky carpet groomer".  Seriously?  Who named it that?  Anyways, it too is a.w.e.s.o.m.e.  My mom always used to talk about "raking" her shag carpet.  Well, I now rake my own large shag area rug in the living room and the kid's round rug in their room.  I feel like I should shut the drapes while I am raking my rug but boy it is a gem!  ha.

I found this cute red necklace for .75 cents.

My birthday was last week.  Yes, I am now 32.  My wonderful sister stole the kids for an hour to buy me a gift.  They came back with a brown and white floral scarf (which I adore) and this cute little turquoise vase with pink flowers.  I am pretty sure I have the best kids and sister in the whole wide world.

My envelope to the card from my favorite little people.  I love how cute it is and how proud they were to give it to me.  Love them.
It is now proudly displayed on our bulletin board.

Umm....someone is growing.
So much so that I had to cut the toes off his
favorite jammies so his feet would fit.

Tonight as we sat together for dinner, I again began to realize how blessed I am to have these two amazing children.  I love how we talk about our day, who they played with, what they learned, etc.  We were meant for each other and I am so glad God put us together in our little family.  I am such a lucky Mama.

At the table tonight...
Seri:  "Mom, I need to tell you something.  You are the best Mom in the whole wide world." as she smiles at me with lasagna all over her mouth.  Sweetheart.

Jett:  "Ya, Mom.  I need to tell you a secret."  He climbs out of his chair, comes over to my ear and says, "You are the prettiest Mama in the whole wide world too."

Mama:  "Oooh, thanks guys.  I think I am the luckiest Mama in the whole wide world to have you two."
